CHAPTER 01

Curl Basics

Know Your Curl Type

Understanding your curl type is the first step to achieving healthy, beautiful curls. Each curl pattern has unique characteristics and requires specific care techniques.

CURL TYPE — WAVY REFERENCE

TYPE 01

Wavy

2A · 2B · 2C

Wavy hair has a natural S-shaped pattern that falls between straight and curly. It tends to be more prone to frizz and benefits from lightweight styling products.

CURL TYPE — CURLY REFERENCE

TYPE 02

Curly

3A · 3B · 3C

Curly hair forms defined spiral curls with volume and bounce. This curl type requires moisture-rich products and gentle handling to maintain curl definition.

CURL TYPE — COILY REFERENCE

TYPE 03

Coily

4A · 4B · 4C

Coily hair has tight zig-zag patterns with maximum shrinkage. It needs intense hydration and protective styling to retain moisture and length.

"Scalp oils travel down straight hair more easily, which is why curly hair tends to dry out faster."

— Why curly hair needs extra moisture

CUTICLE MICROGRAPH — CLOSED VS RAISED SCALES
CHAPTER 02

Hair Structure

โครงสร้างเส้นผม

The cuticle is the outermost protective layer of your hair strand. When healthy and closed, it creates a smooth, reflective surface that locks in moisture and protects the inner cortex.
เรียบ → ผมเงา สุขภาพดี สะท้อนแสง
ยกตัว → ผมหยาบ ขาดความชุ่มชื้น
เสียหาย → แตกปลาย เปราะบาง
Understanding your hair's cuticle health is the first step to choosing the right care routine.
— CHAPTER 03

Porosity

Hair Porosity

Hair porosity is the ability of your hair to absorb and retain moisture. Understanding your hair's porosity will help you choose the right products for your hair type.

HIGH POROSITY
HIGH POROSITY

Absorbs Fast

But Loses Moisture Quickly

High porosity hair absorbs moisture quickly, but it also loses moisture just as fast. This means your hair needs consistent hydration to stay healthy.

Observable Characteristics

  • Absorbs water quickly
  • Dries quickly
  • Often looks frizzy and puffy
  • Prone to damage

วิธีดูแล

  • Avoid high heat
  • Use oils or serums to lock in moisture
  • Do regular treatments
  • Use intensive conditioning products

LOW POROSITY
LOW POROSITY

Absorbs Slowly

But Retains Moisture Longer

Low porosity hair absorbs moisture slowly, but once it does, it retains it for a longer period. This means your hair is naturally more resistant to moisture loss.

Observable Characteristics

  • Absorbs water slowly
  • Dries slowly
  • Often looks shiny
  • Resistant to damage

วิธีดูแล

Build your routine

Simple routine that works

Cleanse and Condition

Use a sulfate-free shampoo to wash the scalp, focusing on hydration. Follow with a conditioner, detangling with fingers or a wide-tooth comb while the hair is soaked.

Apply Leave-in Products

Apply products to soaking wet hair to prevent frizz. Start with a leave-in conditioner, followed by a curl cream for moisture, and finish with a gel or mousse for hold.

Style and Define

Use a brush or finger coils to define curls. Use the scrunching technique to encourage curl formation.

Dry

Use a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt to plop (wrap hair on top of the head) to remove excess moisture. Air dry or use a hair dryer with a diffuser attachment, focusing on roots for volume.

Break the Cast

Once hair is 100% dry, it may feel stiff from the gel. Scrunch out the crunch using your hands or a few drops of hair oil to make curls soft and bouncy.
